Boom Gorge

The Boom Gorge is a connecting link between the Chui and Issyk-Kul valleys. One of the largest rivers of Tien Shan, Chu, flows in the gorge, which has broken through this large and picturesque gorge among the mountains. Boom is characterized by a variety of landscapes. Forested and green slopes covered with trees and bushes suddenly change into desiccated clay canyons, and the turbulent and full-flowing river, usually of bright blue color, creates an unforgettable impression of visiting this place. The complex relief of the gorge is also remarkable: narrow and winding in its lower, western part, it widens considerably in the upper part, forming a rather wide valley. Boom Gorge has a long and rich history. Historically, this pass was of great importance to the region as it was the only way to Lake Issyk-Kul from the west. And if nowadays the journey through the gorge is not difficult, in the past it was difficult and dangerous. The first road was laid there in 1878. And 70 years later there was a railroad, the trip along which to this day takes your breath away because of the high altitude. Boom Gorge will be of interest to any tourist. Very actively developed rafting: wide and rough river Chu perfectly suited for extreme swimming. Also from the Boom Gorge you can get to the canyons of Konorchek or Chon-Kemin Valley. There are many monuments in the gorge, both modern and those left over from Soviet times
