Ala-Archa Gorge is one of the most famous landmarks of Kyrgyzstan. The Ala-Archa Gorge is located in the Chui region, and is a national park. Ala-Archa alpine camp
Ala-Archa Gorge is home to a large number of trails for hiking, trekking, mountaineering and rock climbing. That is why the world famous Ala-Archa alpla camp is located here, which was founded almost 70 years ago. Every year from here you can climb many mountain peaks of Tien-Shan, such as Korona, Adygene, Komsomolets, Uchitel, Pioneer, Free Korea, Box and finally, the highest point of Kyrgyz ridge, peak Semenov-Tyan-Shansky (4876 m). Every year on May 1st a mass climbing campaign begins on Komsomolets peak (4,160m) and lasts till the end of the May holidays. Also, every year there are held various mountaineering competitions, including world championships.
Near the alpine camp, just a few kilometers from it, there is another attraction of Ala-Archa - "North Star" shelter, which is a mountaineering memorial. There are monuments to the many alpinists, who were the first explorers of the mountain slopes of the Tien Shan.
5 km east of the alpine camp, near the Ak-Sai glacier, there is the Racek hut, which serves as a base camp for climbing most of the Ala-Archa peaks.
Upper Ala-Archa canyon is located at the farthest part of the gorge, almost 20 kilometers away from the alpla camp. There, at the foot of the Big Ala-Archa glacier there is a small house, which used to be a part of the ski base. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the base fell into disrepair, but the lodge remained and is still visited by tourists.
