Chunkurchak Gorge

Chunkurchak Gorge (also Chon-Kurchak) is one of the closest mountain gorges to Bishkek and at the same time, one of the most beautiful in the Chui region. Chunkurchak has an amazing feature: unlike many other gorges of the Kyrgyz ridge, it stretches from the north to the east, as if along the ridge. The length of the gorge is quite small, about 30 kilometers, but this distance contains a lot of amazing scenery. Here sharp snowy peaks neighbor with green meadows full of flowers, spruce forest, so rare in this part of the Tian Shan, and red soil, creating a unique contrast of colors. The road in Chunkurchak also deserves special attention: a picturesque dirt serpentine with many turns, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the nearby mountains, and in the western part of the gorge there is a panorama of the Chui Valley and Bishkek. The highest part of the gorge, the Kyzyl-Beles Pass, is located at an altitude of 2,300 meters. From the natural attractions of Chunkurchak you can see the Pigeon waterfall, which falls from the impressive height of 30 meters in a small stream.
