The Shamsi Gorge is a gorge in the eastern part of the Kyrgyz mountain range, located above the town of Tokmok. This gorge is notable for the large number of forests and trees, and a fairly low elevation gain.
There are many places for picnics and recreation in the gorge. Also in Shamsi is the so-called "Shah's Cabin", which was built in 1968 for the Shah of Iran, who visited Kyrgyzstan. The gorge has a rich cultural history: for a long time the Shamsi Pass and the gorge itself was a connecting way between Kochkor and Chui valleys. By the way, very close to the gorge is the famous Burana Tower.
Nowadays Shamsi Gorge is very popular as a kind of connecting link for many hiking trails. From it you can go to Kochkor valley, and then to Son-Kul, you can get to Konorchek canyons and to Boom gorge.
